Who Should Attend
Our training workshops are for everyone interested in making a difference in Central Oklahoma neighborhoods.
Location
Our monthly roundtables, Organizing Your Neighborhood and New Officers' Training, are held at the Neighborhood Alliance Building, 1236 NW 36th at the SE corner of Classen, Oklahoma City. Other workshops vary in location. Register for workshops to receive additional information and directions.
Fees
All of our workshops and roundtables are given free of charge. To help us continue offering free classes you can donate on our website or when attending an event.
Cancellation Policy
Neighborhood Alliance operates with a small staff and occasionally we are forced to reschedule events due to illness or weather. We will notify you by phone in the event of a cancellation. If you are ever unable to attend an event, please do let us know, as some events have a waiting list.
2010 Neighborhood Alliance Events
Neighborhood Leaders for Today - February 25 through April 8
This one-of-a-kind leadership program is designed to give citizens the confidence and tools they need to create, promote and sustain productive citizen-based neighborhood associations and to help develop sustainable community improvement projects. The class runs 8 weeks and includes over 30 different speakers all geared toward creating educated, well-equipped neighborhood leaders throughout Oklahoma City. This class will include 35 hours of classroom study through which Participants will learn how to organize successful neighborhood groups, access City services, develop successful grant projects, organize neighborhood specific programs, navigate City Hall, establish membership drives, communicate effectively, and much more.
Organizing Your Neighborhood - first Tuesday of even-number months, 6pm
Start Here! This beginners’ workshop gives you the tools you need to get your neighborhood organized. Offered the first Tuesday of even-number months at the Neighborhood Alliance Building, 1236 NW 36th Street, OKC, at 6:00 pm. Light dinner is served. You must pre-register to reserve your seat, 528-6322. There will be no June session of Organizing Your Neighborhood and the August session will be held the second Tuesday, August 10th.
New Officers’ Training - first Tuesday of odd-number months, 6pm
Just been elected? Thinking about it? This workshop will arm you with the information you need to be the best neighborhood officer you can be! Offered the first Tuesday of odd-number months at the Neighborhood Alliance Building, 1236 NW 36th Street, OKC, at 6:00 pm. Light dinner is served. You must pre-register to reserve your seat, 528-6322.
American Institute of Architects Tour -Saturday, April 17, 12:00 - 5:00pm
An annual event held by the local American Institute of Architects Central Oklahoma Chapter to help create public awareness on the importance of an architect and what they bring to our community. Educating the public about regional architecture, as well as the role of the architect is a crucial part of the AIA mission statement. Proceeds from the tour benefit Neighborhood Alliance. Locations will be announced at www.aiacoc.org. Email aiacoc@sbcglobal.net for more information. Volunteers who work a half-day shift at a tour site will earn a ticket for the remaining half-day to take the tour themselves. Call our office if you would like to volunteer.
Basic Legal Issues for HOAs – June 15 and July 13, 6:30pm
This workshop for mandatory Homeowner Associations is always widely attended. Attorney Matthew Winton presents the basics, including covenants, bylaws and amendment procedures. The workshop finishes up with a generous Question & Answer session. Register online: Basic Legal Issues for HOAs (north) July 13, 2010.
planOKC Neighborhood Workshop –July 15, 6:00pm
planOKC is coordinating with Neighborhood Alliance to host a special workshop for neighborhood associations at 6pm on July 15, Langston University’s OKC Campus. We will share information about the planning process, and ask you about your neighborhood challenges as well as strengths. We want every neighborhood to send a representative!

Code Enforcement 101 – Tuesday, June 22
Our most eagerly awaited workshop of the year! This workshop focuses on the City of OKC code enforcement programs, the impact of zoning on code enforcement and some of the resources available to residents for taking care of their homes and neighborhoods. You will learn how to proactively work with City officials to deal with code violations and help clean up your neighborhood.
Advanced Legal Issues for HOAs – August 17, 6:30pm
This workshop is for representatives of Homeowners Associations who have attended Basic Legal Issues. All attendees of the Basic workshops will receive an invitation to this advanced course.
Beautification Station/Cruisin’ OKC – Saturday, August 8, 8:30 am
Have you noticed the beautiful landscaping that some neighborhoods display and wondered, “How can my neighborhood do that?” Beautification Station has your answer. Join the fun for “Cruisin’ OKC”, a chartered bus tour of the most beautiful volunteer-driven improvement projects in Oklahoma City. After the tour, stay for lunch and informal conversation to learn how you can complete a beautification project for your neighborhood! This tour is FREE and open to the public but be sure and get your registration in early, this one fills up fast!
OKC’s National Night Out – Tuesday, September 14
National Night Out is the most enjoyable crime fighting tool out there! Studies support the notion that a social neighborhood is a safer neighborhood, so throw a party and celebrate! NNO events can range from a porch light vigil or flashlight walk to a catered picnic. Be sure to register with Neighborhood Alliance so that your event is published with the master list, distributed to OCPD, OCFD and city council. Registration packets will be available on our website this summer.
Fourth Annual Good Neighbor Awards Banquet – Thursday, November 4
The Good Neighbor Awards Banquet continues to be our most anticipated event! Join us for an elegant evening celebrating the exceptional efforts of Central Oklahoma’s neighbors and neighborhoods. Nominations are solicited starting in April (check our website for nomination packets). Downtown Petroleum Club.
